KyotoVibe is a small anime portal run by people who take anime seriously.
We started in 2021, we're based in Poitiers, and we publish everything in English. No anonymous bylines, no AI-generated summaries, no paid rankings disguised as editorial picks.
How this started
The short version: a few of us were watching too much anime and couldn't find a site that reviewed it the way we wanted to read about it. Most English-language coverage was either oriented around clickbait rankings or obviously influenced by affiliate deals and sponsored access. French-language coverage was thin.
So in early 2021, we set up KyotoVibe. The name is a bit whimsical — none of us have been to Kyoto yet, though we're working on it. The point was to write honestly about anime: what works, what doesn't, what's interesting even if flawed, and what's genuinely bad despite the hype.
Five years in, we still operate out of Poitiers. We're registered as KyotoVibe SAS under French law. The team has grown slightly but is still small enough that everyone actually talks to each other.
We accept custom review orders — meaning studios, distributors, or fans can pay to have a show reviewed. We'll do the review, but we won't guarantee a positive one. That's the only model that makes the editorial side worth reading.
